America's Mountain Town

Ski Vail

When it comes time to plan out those precious winter vacation days, a great escape to a sunny beach may be at the top the list for some, but any true lover of winter will tell you hitting the slopes and heading to the mountains is the best way to celebrate the winter season. Vail Resort, located in its namesake town Vail, Colorado, has quickly become the largest ski area in the state of Colorado and the third-largest ski area in the United States, over its more than 50-year history. Home to many winter Olympians, the town of Vail and Vail Resort are truly one-of-a-kind experiences for any skier, snowboarder, or all-around winter enthusiasts of any kind. You will find plenty of ways to stay busy on the mountain as well as discover plenty of “après ski” activities around town ready to be explored when the day is done.

Founded in 1962 by Peter Seibert, a member of the 10th Mountain Division of the US Army, who was stationed at Camp Hale, and several friends, including Earl Eaton, near the base of Vail Pass. Vail has long been one of the top ski destinations in the world and was styled after the famed ski resorts in the Alps near where Seibert was stationed. Within Vail’s first 50-years Vail quickly grew from its humble beginnings as a nine-run mountain to the now behemoth 5,289 acre resort, one of the top rated US Ski Resorts and home to Olympic greats such as Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin. While Vail is best known for its skiing, there are many activities to enjoy on your winter vacation that can be found at Discover Vail.
